Trained as a painter, Ilga’s recent solo practice has been predominantly drawing-based as well as collaborative, working extensively with individuals and groups since 2007.
Ilga’s practice encompasses drawing, collage, installation, painting, walking. Her work in recent years has become more experimental and crosses over into new areas of research.
Recent collaborations include an independent virtual 16mm film research project hosted by not/nowhere and presented at the Paul Mellon Centre (2021) ‘sisters hope’, a series of process-based interventions to generate hope together with her sister Andra Kalnins at Five Years (2022) and MIDDplace in Los Angeles (2022).
She is a member of Five Years, a collaborative artists’ project in London and contributes to its programming.
